Blodgett-Pierce Family Website --- What's New

July 2013 Update -

New Story: Stories of my Father's Experiences (Forrest Blodgett)
New Story: Mother's Watermelon Pickles
New Chart: Ten Generation Ancestor Fan Chart !!!

Alan Blodgett wrote a series of short tales about his father, Forrest Blodgett and his
grandfather, Silas Blodgett. He also wrote story about his mother, Elsa (James) Blodgett.
These stories are located in "Family Stories". Some of them are pretty funny. A good read.
I also reorganized the family stories page, so that all the stories and personal profiles
are accessible from the main page. No more sub-menus to wade thru.

We also now have an online version of the ten generation Blodgett Pierce fan chart that
we bring to the reunions. It can viewed online, or downloaded as a PDF file, to be either
viewed locally on your PC or printed (at your local Kinkos of Staples - it requires a big printer).
If you have a slow PC or not much memory it may be easier to download the PDF and view it offline.
It's located at the end of our
Family Charts page.
This is an example of the kind of things we can do, now that we have more space available
with our new site provider.

July 2012 Update -

New Story: H.O. Blodgett and Son
Blodgett Pierce Family Website has moved !!!

The latest addition to our family history website is a story called "H.O. Blodgett and Son"",
It was written by Ed McClenathan about his grandfather, H.O. Blodgett and his hardware store.
It's located in
"Family Stories".
This is the kind of story that we need more of, if we want to pass an interesting history
of our family down to future generations.
So start writing!

The Blodgett Pierce Family website has moved to a new location.
We now have our own domain name --- blodgett-pierce.org
(you can type this into any browser to go right to our site)
Be sure to update your bookmarks with the new site location

At this time the website is basically the same as the prior website
But this new web host gives us the ability to do many interesting things in the future
We will now have...
- more space available to use for photos and downloadable data
- the ability to present our family history in many more formats

As changes and additions are made, I'll update this page
So check back with this page, to stay updated on what's new on the site

Aug 2011 Update - Blodgett Pierce Family Website is moving

The Blodgett Pierce Family website is moving to a new location.

Click here --->
"Website Move Information and Link"
- To learn more about this move
- To get the link to the new site (once the new site is up and running)

This change is being made because...
Verizon is no longer supporting updates to custom websites as of Aug 22, 2011.
Verizon is limiting updates to only those websites built using it's sitebuilder tool.
This tool is inadequate for creating websites, so we have to move to a new provider.

Remember...
After Aug 22, 2011 "Website Move Information and Link" will be the only page that will be updated.

Check the "Website Move Information and Link" page each time you get on...
- To see if the new site is up
- To get the link to the new site.

Family Charts

We've just added a new chart called Common Ancestor Relationship Chart.
This chart is designed to graphically display the relationship between the various lines
of Blodgett and Pierce families that regulary attend our annual reunion.

February 2011 Update - Family Stories Added

Family Stories

We've just added a new section called Family Stories.
This section contains a series of essays that tell some of the history of our family.
The first page, called "Memoirs of life growing up on a farm in Chautauqua County",
was written by Barbara (Blodgett) Vannier as part of an ongoing project by her to
write her memoirs. This page contains a series of vignettes that provide a glimpse
of her childhood on a farm on the outskirts of Fredonia. Also included is a story
written by Katie Putnam called "Katie's Memories of Homemade Ice Cream".
This story was previously located in the Family History section of our website.
These stories all help to give us picture of what life was like growing up in rural
Chautauqua County in the 1920's and 1930's.

We've also added a page to our Family Stories section called
Personal Profiles.
This page contains a series of short profiles of a few of the members of our extended
family. These profiles paint a more detailed picture of the character and lives of some
of our relatives. We hope that family members will contribute many more profiles.

The last addition is a story called "
Connections", that descibes the discovery of a
link between the Blodgett family and the Stone family in the distant past that shows
just what a small world this is.

To read these stories and profiles, click the "Family Stories" button at the top of the page.

We need your help

We hope that other family members will contribute more stories and profiles to our archive
and help us preserve our family history for future generations.

July 2010 Update -
New Charts, Family Pages and Reunion Photos

Family Charts

We now have the first in a series of charts covering the first several generations of Blodgetts
and Pierces to settle in Chautauqua County. These generations span the time period from those
born in the early 1800's to those born in the early 1900's.

The first chart is
Descendants of Willard Blodgett and Rebecca Gibbs .
It covers three generations of Willard and Rebeccas descendants. This chart provides the first
coverage on our family website for this line of the family.
The next chart
Descendants of Abram Stocking and Elizabeth Blodgett - Milo Blodgett Line.
is the first chart of several needed to cover Abram Stocking Blodgett's many descendants.
This charts covers Milo Blodgett and two generations of his descendants.
The last chart
Descendants of Abram Stocking and Elizabeth Blodgett - Aaron Burr Blodgett Line.
is the second chart of several needed to cover Abram Stocking Blodgett's many descendants.
This charts covers Aaron Burr Blodgett and two generations of his descendants. Other charts
covering Milo and Arron Burr's siblings and their descendants will follow soon.
These charts also link to family pages for many of the descendants listed.

Family Pages

We now also have family pages for Willard Blodgett and his descendants,
William Henry Harrison Blodgett and Harry Orange Blodgett. Harry Orange Blodgett's page
includes several fine photos of Harry, Mabel, and their family, thanks to two of his descendants,
James Porter and Sondra Lindner. These additions provide some badly needed coverage
for a side of the family that has been well represented at our reunions lately.

Reunion Photos

We've also added a photos of the:
-
2009 Blodgett Pierce Reunion
-
1978 Blodgett-Pierce-Landas Reunion
-
1981 Blodgett-Pierce-Landas Reunion
-
Pierce Reunion from about 1912

March 2010 Update -
Website host changed from ATT to Verizon

Why we moved

In mid January I received an email from ATT stating that they were restructuring
their internet service and (as of the end on March) would no longer be providing
web hosting as part of their internet service. This action forced the move.
Hopefully Verizon will work out well. If not, I'll find another provider
who gives us the service we need.

--- Note: new email address --- Email: blodgett_pierce@verizon.net
(email provider changed to verizon and "-" changed to "_" in "blodgett_pierce")

Please pass along news of the new website location to other family members
(I will email news of the change to everyone on our email list).

Jan 2009 Updates -
Reunion photo enlargements now have people identified

Reunion Photos

Early reunion photo enlargements (1899 - 1937) now show each individual's name
(for those people we've been able to identify so far).
Just place the cursor on each person to see their name.
Unidentified people show only a number. So if you think you recognize someone,
send me an email (blodgett-pierce@att.net) with the name of the picture and
the individual's number and tell me who you thinlk it is.
I'll update the website with any new information I recieve.

April 2008 Updates -
New Family Data Form and Family History Timeline added

Family Data Form

We now have a Family Data Entry Form to update our records with your family history.
Just fill in the blanks and press "Submit Email" (at the bottom of the form) to send it to us.
This way we're sure to have our records of your family accurate and up to date.
It's easy to enter. So try it out.

Family History Timeline

We now have a Blodgett-Pierce Family History Timeline.
This timeline presents major events in our family history in chronological order.
Each underlined text is a link to another page that provides detail about that event.
These event links are either to family pages for an individual or to short essays
that describe major historical events and their impact on our family.

Reunion Photos

We've just added enlargements of each reunion photo.
To see these enlarged photos, click "Click Here" at the lower right of each reunion photo page.

March 2008 Updates - New charts and family pages added

Family Charts

We now have a "Pierce Family Early American Descendant Chart" . It covers the first seven
generations in America (just like the Blodgett chart does). It starts with John Pearce Sr
and continues down to Enos Allen's generation. It also links to family pages for each of our
direct ancestors.

Family Pages

We now also have family pages for our Pierce early American ancestors. This information was
gathered from a combination of sources. The major source for the more recent family members
(from Ichabod Sr thru the children of Enos Allen) is from the first draft of an uncompleted
Pierce family history book that was being complied by John Blodgett. Information on the earlier
generations (John Sr thru Joseph Pierce) is based on miscellaneous records of John Blodgett's
and data gathered from various internet family history sites.

Ancestor Chains

Each Pierce family page now has a line showing the direct Pierce ancestors of that individual.
You can click on each ancestor name, and be taken to that ancestor's family page.
Try it (put the cursor on a name and click to follow the chain) -

October 2007 Updates - New functionality added

Family Charts

This section contains the first in a series of Blodgett and Pierce family charts. This
first chart covers the early American Blodgett descendants from Thomas's through Milo's
generation. This chart contains links to the family page for each of our direct ancestors.
Brothers and sisters of our ancestors are also shown, but not linked at this time.
To see the chart, click the "Family Charts" button at the top of the page.
To see an ancestor's family page, click on the ancestors name on the chart.

Ancestor Chains

Each Blodgett family page now has a line showing the direct Blodgett ancestors of that individual.
You can click on each ancestor name, and be taken to that ancestor's family page.
This same functionality will be provided for Pierce ancestors in the near future.
Here's what they look like. Try it (put the cursor on a name and click to follow the chain) -

To return to the original page, just click the back button.

Reunion Photos

We've just added a photo of the 2007 Blodgett Pierce Reunion.

Looking ahead...

Over time, we intend to add much more detail.
More Photos, More charts, more family pages, more history, more stories, more recipes.
As more detail and new functionality is added, we will note these changes on this page.
So check this page periodically to see "What's New"

Remember... In order to do this:

We need your help

  • - Photos - we want to have at least one good photo of each family member
  • - Stories - we want to make this family history an interesting, informative tale
  • - Facts - any information on current family members or ancestors you may have
