Ichabod Pierce, a farmer, moved from Rhode Island to Guilford, Windham County, Vermont
and married Mary Crouch sometime before 1790. Their marriage certificate was a piece of foolscap.
Foolscap is an early type of legal document paper, size 17 x 13 1/2 (often with watermark showing
a jester). This document was in a desk in the possession of their great grandson, Leon. Unfortunately
this will was lost (along with other important papers) when the desk was loaned to another relative
and subsequently destroyed.

Mary Crouch's parents, William Crouch and Christiana Bolles, can be traced back three generations
to early settlers (mid 1600's) of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine. Most of these lines came
from England, in the vicinity of London and Nottingham. Some can be traced to royal lines.

They are listed in the 1790 census as married, with no children. In 1800 they are listed as
still residing in Guilford, VT, with seven children (four sons and three daughters). Sometime
after 1800 they moved to the vicinity of Lorraine, Jefferson County, NY, where their younger
children were born. In the mid or late 1820's they moved from Lorraine to Collins, Erie County, NY.

They lived the remainder of their lives in Collins, NY. They are buried in a rural cemetery
on the corner of Wilcox and Quaker Roads in Collins, NY with their daughter Cynthia.
They died without wills, as far as is known.
